Spear phishing emails are often tailored to businesses and their owners, resulting in stolen data and business information. In our industry, criminals will often try to steal taxpayer data to allow them to file fraudulent tax returns in the names of individual and business clients. While we have taken deliberate steps to ensure our client’s data is safe, we have seen an increase overall in individuals who have had their identity stolen and have had a tax return filed in their name.
